Newark WYSE Team
WYSE, or World Youth in Science and Engineering, is an academic competition
in which high school students take tests in two subject areas of their
choice. The competitive series of tests are created and administered by
WYSE and are offered to high school students in Illinois and Missouri.
The tests are now offered by more than 50 community colleges and universities
and are designed to present a challenge to students.
Students pick from a total of seven subjects – math, English, chemistry,
physics, computer science, biology and graphic engineering. Test material
is drawn from senior high school and freshman level college curricula
and written by teams of college and university faculty. There are medals
given for 1st through 3rd place in each subject area. A team consists
of 14 students of any grade level.
